Getting there and choosing your base
- Da Nang International Airport (DAD): One of the few Vietnamese airports almost inside its city, a few kilometres from the centre, with domestic and regional flights. Transfers to most hotels are short, so a late arrival is less of a reason to pay for an airport hotel.
- Da Nang railway station: A stop on the Reunification line, with Hue a short train ride north. Taxis wait outside; the station is on the west bank, so beach hotels are a ride across the river.
- Da Nang intercity bus station: A few kilometres out of the centre, served by local buses. Sleeper coaches arrive from across the country and from several cities in Laos.
Areas to consider
My Khe, north end (Phuoc My and My An)
Fits travellers who want a beach morning and a city evening without long rides. Hotels here are often tall and set back behind the coast road, so check whether the 'sea view' is from the room or only from the rooftop.
Hai Chau (west bank)
Fits visitors focused on the Han Market, riverside restaurants and the bridges lit at night. Ask how far it is to the beach by bus or ride-hailing, because the sea is across the river rather than at the end of the street.
Son Tra Peninsula
Fits travellers who want forested hills, the Linh Ung pagoda viewpoint and secluded resort beaches. Check whether the resort runs a shuttle into town, as the peninsula road is long and there is little within walking distance.
Non Nuoc and the Marble Mountains coast
Fits resort stays with larger grounds and quieter sand south of the city. Work out the taxi cost into central Da Nang before booking, because restaurants and shops are a long ride away.
When to go
June to August is the hottest and most humid stretch, and tropical storms are most likely in October and November, with grey, wet weather often lasting into early in the year. Domestic holidays fill beach hotels quickly, and the annual international fireworks festival on the Han River brings large crowds to the riverside.
Before choosing a room
- International brands charge a clear premium, while many local hotels are geared to tour groups; read recent reviews for comments on breakfast crowding and group check-in times.
- For a stay during the Han River fireworks festival, ask whether the room actually faces the river and whether the hotel adds a festival surcharge or minimum stay.
- Construction is still ongoing along the beachfront; ask whether there is building work next door before committing to a long stay.
