Getting there and choosing your base

Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL): Terminal 3 handles every international flight; Terminal 1 is mainly domestic. The Orange Line Airport Express runs from T3 via Aerocity to New Delhi railway station, and a feeder bus links T1 with Aerocity.
Noida International Airport, Jewar: About 70 km south-east of central Delhi and, as of mid-2026, domestic only. It lacks public transport, so a hotel in Noida or a pre-booked car makes more sense than a central base for early flights.
New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar stations: New Delhi station is the main terminal and sits beside Paharganj. Many southbound trains use Nizamuddin and eastbound ones Anand Vihar, so check your departure station before booking.

Areas to consider

Paharganj and Karol Bagh

The cheapest rooms in the city, close to New Delhi station and Connaught Place; noisy and full of touts, but considered safe. Ask for a room facing away from Main Bazaar if you want to sleep before midnight.

South Delhi (Hauz Khas, Greater Kailash, Lajpat Nagar)

Upmarket neighbourhoods with guesthouses, markets and restaurants, and quick road access to the airport. Measure the walk to the Yellow or Magenta Line; the two meet at Hauz Khas, and the Magenta Line reaches Terminal 1.

Aerocity

The airport's own hotel and dining district, practical for a single night between flights. Aerocity has an Airport Express stop for T3, but T1 passengers need the feeder bus, so allow for it.

Gurugram (Cyber City, Golf Course Road, MG Road)

The obvious base for business in Haryana's office districts. Check whether the hotel is near the Rapid Metro, which links Cyber City and Golf Course Road to the Yellow Line at Sikanderpur.

When to go

December and January are cold, and thick smog regularly cancels flights and delays trains, so flexible rates are worth paying for. April and May can reach 45 °C, and the June to September monsoon is humid. February–March and October–November are the most comfortable months.

Before choosing a room

In winter, ask whether rooms have air purifiers and windows that seal properly.
When booking an airport pick-up, give the terminal number; T1 and T3 are far apart and the inter-terminal bus runs on city roads.
Do not book transfers or tours through 'tourist information' offices around Connaught Place; they are private agents, not the government office.
